Made Address on “Westchester County History in Tabloid” Before Huguenot Association.
Alvah E. French, editor of the Westchester County Magazine, of White Plains, delivered an address yesterday afternoon before the Huguenot Association of New Rochelle, which body held its summer meeting at the Huguenot House, the Thomas Paine residence, in North Street. His subject was: “Westchester County History in Tabloid.”
The attendance was large and it comprised the representative citizens of New Rochelle and many visitors. Henry M. Lester, Esq., President of the National City Bank and who is President of the Huguenot Association, presided.
Luncheon was served at 1 o’clock under a large tent on the lawn. During the afternoon the Paine house was opened to the public and hundreds inspected the building and the extensive museum therein. The rooms have been assigned to various historic and civic bodies and in them is contained invaluable records and mementos of early New Rochelle as well as many personal articles belonging to Thomas Paine, the author of “The Crisis.”
On this property may also be seen the second school-house erected within the present city of New Rochelle. It was recently moved to the spot it now occupies and will be preserved by the Huguenot Association, an organization that is public spirited and patriotic.
