Inventor Breaks Ground for Memorial Building at New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N. Y., May 30 (A.P.).—Thomas A. Edison today broke ground for the new Paine Memorial Building to be erected by the Thomas Paine National Historical Association.

The inventor motored from his Orange, N. J., home. More than 1,000 persons heard speakers urge more appreciation of Thomas Paine.

Today was the 150th anniversary of the appearance of Paine’s book, “Common Sense,” a document said to have been a contributing cause of the war for independence. A flag, made by Paine, depicting a rainbow symbolizing Paine’s desire for international peace, was unfurled.
