Thomas Paine Anniversaries

The statue of Thomas Paine (modelled by the notorious spy Edwards) was placed on the platform, amidst an enthusiastic burst of applause.

A number of friends met at the Seven Stars, Barker-gate, on the 28th ult., to celebrate the birth day of Thomas Paine.

At the meeting of the Utilitarian Society on Sunday last, at the house of Mr. J. Cook, Upper Orwell-street, Mr. Spilling delivered an able address on the Life and Writings of Thomas Paine.

A supper in honour of the above eminent political character, numerously attended, was held on Monday evening last, at the Seven Stars, Baker Gate.

A public tea party was held at the Literary Institution, John-street, Tottenham-court-road, on Friday evening, January the 29th, in commemoration of the birth of the immortal Thomas Paine.

The Democrats of this place, held a Public Meeting in celebration of the birth of Thomas Paine, at the Walters Arms, Church-street, Deptford, on Wednesday evening, February the 3rd.

The admirers of the writings of this noble author commemorated his birth by partaking of a plain but substantial supper, on Saturday night, Jan. 29, at the Travellers’ Rest, Penysheol.

The above event was celebrated by a supper on Friday last. The room was beautifully decorated with portraits of Paine, Frost, M’Douall, Oastler, etc.
