CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL MEETINGS
OFFICIAL PROGRAM
The official announcement of the program for the Paine Centennial is now made through the medium of a printed circular, a copy of which is being sent to all friends of Paine, as far as these are known.
From it we now learn that two meetings will be held. Both are under the joint auspices of the Thomas Paine Historical Association, Paine Memorial Association, Brooklyn Philosophical Association, Society for Ethical Culture, and the Hugenot Association of New Rochelle. The first of these meetings will be held in the rooms of the Long Island Business College, Eighth Street, near Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, N. Y., Sunday afternoon, May 30th. The following speakers are announced for this meeting: Rev. Robert J. Lockhart, of the Presbyterian Church, Nichols, N. Y.; Rev. Henry Frank, of New York City; and Mr. Henry Rowley, of Brooklyn.
The next and greatest meeting will be held at New Rochelle, N. Y., on the afternoon of Saturday, June 5th. The services will be held on North Street and Paine Avenue, located between the Paine Monument and the old Paine House. The exercises will commence at 2 p. m. Following is the program:
“Thomas Paine as the Devotee of Liberty”—Rev. Thos. R. Slicer (Pastor All Souls’ Unitarian Church, N. Y.).
“Paine as a Prophet of Democracy”—David Saville Muzzey. (Society for Ethical Culture.)
“Paine the Pioneer of International Peace”—Prof. Thaddeus Burr Wakeman, (Pres. Thomas Paine Historical Society).
Special Round Trip Railroad Rate of Fifty Cents from New York City. Tickets to be had of Dr. E. B. Foote, Treasurer, 120 Lexington Avenue; W. M. Van Der Weyde, Secretary, 241 Fifth Avenue; W. A. Winham, Asst. Sec., 296 Hewes St., Brooklyn, N. Y., or at the Grand Central Station before 1 o’clock, at the entrance on Lexington Avenue, facing 44th Street.
Train leaves on New York & New Haven R. R., at 1.08. Trolley at New Rochelle runs up North St. from Depot to monument. Distance, one and one-half miles of good, level walk.
