I wish to extend my thanks to Capt. Geo. W. Lloyd of New Rochelle, for an art lathe pen staff made from a small twig of the hickory tree that grew out of the grave of Thomas Paine.
Blake was born in 1757 and died in 1827 — his active life was embraced in the last quarter of the eighteenth century and in the first quarter of the century just past.
