Although Independence Day had been decided upon for the rededication of the Thomas Paine Monument, the Mayor was out of town and the ceremony was postponed.
I wish to extend my thanks to Capt. Geo. W. Lloyd of New Rochelle, for an art lathe pen staff made from a small twig of the hickory tree that grew out of the grave of Thomas Paine.

About one hundred and fifty people, many of them ladies, assembled in the auditorium of Masonic temple last evening to listen to addresses, or eulogies, upon the life of Thomas Paine.

The transformation of North-st. in New Rochelle-on-the-Sound into a modern boulevard to connect that city with White Plains and the villages on the Hudson River is now in progress.
It has become necessary to move the monument erected to Thomas Paine, politician, philosopher and maker of republics, from the roadside in front of the farm that was his near New Rochelle, N. Y.

Business, a few days ago, called me from New York to this village, and before immediate duties demanded my care I took a stroll of 1½ miles from the village to the tomb of the author of “The Age of Reason”.
